My first post – aaaaaaw. And the Rugby.

Posted by lynnelibglamtwin on October 18, 2007

Well.  I’m a-starting to blog.  Just felt like I had things I wanted to share with my buds, can’t write a lot of Facebook and am waaaay too old for Bebo.  So asked a friend, he advised I start with WordPress so here I am.
What made me want to write today was – I am getting caught up in the rugby!  I HATE sport with a passion but Kenny Rogers humour with his support of their using ‘The Gambler’ (I like that he’s going to take full credit if they win!), the patriotic fervour which has nothing to do with class, colour, race, religion, sexuality, ability etc. etc. is making me feel prouder than ever of the team and I have found myself really wanting them to win.  I worked in a pub once that showed curling, and to a man all the Irish customers would stand, hands on heart, and sing the Irish national anthem.  Made me wonder why the English do not.  I know why I don’t.  The right-wing fascists have hi-jacked our symbol and now I feel if I display any English patriotism (or even British or UK patriotism) I am equated with nationalistic zealots and branded a racist.
This displeases me somewhat.  So thank you Kenny Rogers and our England Rugby team for letting me feel proud to be English without fear of being accused of racism.  Lets reclaim our flag and pride for all of us.

So looks like this blog is going to be my chance to rant.  Expect a lot on School Libraries!

  1. You’ve chosen a really nice theme and I love the tongue-twising online ‘name’ you’ve chosen! x

  2. Oops! That should have read ‘twisting’… ‘twising’ sounds like something someone does to get rid of a bushy mono-brow… x
